My Working Method.
It all begins with an idea which may pop up at any time. I quickly scribble these thoughts down on to paper, partly so I don’t forget them, but mostly to progress them. My initial thumbnails may be scruffy, but they are just guides; I know what they mean, even if they make little sense to others.
Next, I seek out the Fay Folk themselves and ask permission to photograph them. I know exactly where to look, but, due to their scarcity (and their bargains) I cannot tell you more.
From the many photographs they let me take, I construct my drawings and then my paintings. Below are 2 examples of the type of pencil studies I create, using 4B pencils on paper.
